We’re opening early access to VeriPDF — a native, single-binary PDF tool built around a simple commitment: your documents never leave your device.
Why we built VeriPDF
Cloud PDF tools want you to upload first and ask questions later. For contracts, medical scans, financial statements, internal reports, and anything else that shouldn’t be sitting in someone else’s bucket, that workflow is the wrong default.
VeriPDF processes everything locally. There is no upload step. There is no server-side OCR. The license check is the only thing that ever talks to our infrastructure, and it runs on a 7-day cadence with a 30-day offline grace period.
What ships today
VeriPDF is in early access (v1.1). Here is what the binary actually does right now:
Native viewing
- PDFium rendering, painted straight to the GPU through
wgpu— no WebView, no Electron - Multi-tab interface for working across documents
- Raster thumbnail sidebar
- Bookmark / outline panel with click-to-jump
- Ligature-safe click-drag text selection
- Dark mode that follows the OS theme
Editable annotations
- Highlight, underline, strikeout
- Free-text inline notes
- Squares, rectangles, and ink (freehand)
- Move, resize, and delete handles — saved back to the PDF, not stored in a sidecar
AcroForm filling
- Text fields, checkboxes, and dropdowns
- Choice fields with popover option lists
- Read-only signature field display
- Full Unicode entry, including CJK
Local OCR
- PaddleOCR via the ONNX runtime, on-device
- Page-level recognition
- Strong CJK support — Chinese, Japanese, Korean
Document production
- Merge multiple PDFs into one, split by ranges or per-page
- Headers and footers across every page
- Text and image watermarks with opacity and rotation
- Bates numbering with configurable prefix, padding, and start number
Security
- Password encryption with separate open and permissions passwords
- Permission controls for print, edit, copy, and annotate
- One-click decryption for PDFs you can already open
Markdown + calendar
- Side-by-side markdown editor with live preview
- Markdown → PDF export with proper margins, page breaks, and headers
- Month-view calendar with per-day markdown files and TODO lists
Local version control
- A local history of every change to a document
- Side-by-side diff between any two versions
- Restore to a previous state, no cloud account required
LAN file sharing
- Send PDFs directly between VeriPDF instances over the local network
- No account, no third party
On the roadmap
We’re being honest about what’s not in the build yet. These are coming in later releases — Personal Plus and Pro users get them automatically as they ship:
- Page operations: rotate, delete, insert, reorder, crop
- Permanent redaction
- Digital signatures with local-key verification
- PDF text editing
- Async + batch OCR
- CLI mode for automation
Getting started
VeriPDF runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The free Personal tier is for evaluation and personal use. Personal Plus and Pro unlock the full annotation toolkit, local OCR, version control, and LAN sharing.
